Windows Phone feature C++ and 120 lang support

Nowadays, everyone who uses the Windows Phone OS has one major rant – It’s app-starved! But if leaks from Microsoft developer event here in India are to be trusted, the coming Windows Phone OS – Tango is set to resolve this problem by offering C++ support to developers along with up to 120 language support.

Simply put C++ apps are easier to develop than many other platforms. It would mean a wide range of developers would have the opportunity and ease to create Windows apps, and by that notion, more apps should pour in.

The additional language support will mean that Windows handsets will cover more countries. This is where Windows Phone OS might be able to leverage itself against Android and iOS. Native language support makes it easier to operate and understand handsets.  This is a big step up from current Windows 7.5-Mango OS, which supports only 35 languages.

Windows Phones, although have created their own niche, are still miles away from leaving a mark on the smartphone market. Microsoft’s endeavor, according to us, is in the right direction as even Android is trying to edit its code to support many languages. Lets see who wins the race to get it first. In related news, the Windows phone Tango might be making its debut at the MWC next month.

Nokia brings a couple of apps to gaze at the stars

Are you fond of looking at the starlit sky? Do you like to see spectacles like planetary sightings, or just plain shooting stars? You no longer need to go to the nearest telescope.

In fact, you don't even need to look up. Just look down, at your Nokia smartphone. Nokia has a couple of star gazing apps for all you astronomers out there. The apps utilize your smartphone's GPS along with a compass to track down stars and planets in a way that has never been done before

The app called Skymap which is available for a price of £1.29 for Nokia Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 and £3 for Symbian devices. What you need to do is switch on the app, point at the sky and adjust the compass, the app does the rest. And then your phone also turns into a viewfinder. As you move your phone in the direction of the sky, you get the detail of all stars, constellations and planets. Moreover, it will also display detailed information on everything you click on.

But that's not all; Nokia's site even displays how you could use your phone to take the photos of stars if you attach it to a high-grade telescope as displayed by Michael from thisisyourlife on Nokia's site. In fact, they have posted a video of the surface of the moon, which is I must admit, quite splendid to look at.

Looking at the app, even though I am not the typical geek who is into astronomy, the concept managed to get me hooked. One generally expects a phone to be endowed with a camera, internet and maybe some games, but telescopic qualities are something one can hardly even dream of.

The extent to which this is possible and how successful it is for amateurs like us still needs to assessed though. Wait for our full app review before you buy it.

eBuddy XMS messenger for MeeGo and WP7 graduates out of Beta

The all in one messenger app, eBuddy XMS, was recently launched for MeeGo and Windows Phone. However, the app was in beta state as it was a little buggy.

Well, the app is now out of beta state and is now officially available for both the platforms. With this graduation, we can expect the S60 and the S40 versions to come out of beta pretty soon.

eBuddy XMS is based on your mobile phonebook, just like text messaging, and it automatically detects which contacts already installed eBuddy XMS so you send messages to them for free (Data Charges Apply). For now the app only lets you XMS text, pictures, emoticons but picture sending, video sending, and group chat will be coming soon in further updates.

Photo-sharing app Instagram might find its way to Windows phones

Windows owners have a reason to celebrate as the photo-sharing app Instagram, which lets user click pictures and edit them with a click, might be finding its way to Windows handsets soon.

If market speculation is a thing to go by, Windows Phone 7 is trying its best to snap up the app fast. The system works well both for Microsoft and Instagram as, while Windows gets a high-end app, the app itself gets a high-end platform, which comes with its own standards.

I believe apps like Instagram can do Windows a world of good, as the OS is currently app-starved. Microsoft, on its part to make the best of the Windows platform, which is though attractive, but hardly efficient as compared to Android or iOS.

Windows is yet to live up to its reputation, which has been mostly created by Microsoft's aggressive marketing strategy. We hope it catches up fast and doesn't miss the gravy train this time.
