Windows Phone feature C++ and 120 lang support

Nowadays, everyone who uses the Windows Phone OS has one major rant – It’s app-starved! But if leaks from Microsoft developer event here in India are to be trusted, the coming Windows Phone OS – Tango is set to resolve this problem by offering C++ support to developers along with up to 120 language support.

Simply put C++ apps are easier to develop than many other platforms. It would mean a wide range of developers would have the opportunity and ease to create Windows apps, and by that notion, more apps should pour in.

The additional language support will mean that Windows handsets will cover more countries. This is where Windows Phone OS might be able to leverage itself against Android and iOS. Native language support makes it easier to operate and understand handsets.  This is a big step up from current Windows 7.5-Mango OS, which supports only 35 languages.

Windows Phones, although have created their own niche, are still miles away from leaving a mark on the smartphone market. Microsoft’s endeavor, according to us, is in the right direction as even Android is trying to edit its code to support many languages. Lets see who wins the race to get it first. In related news, the Windows phone Tango might be making its debut at the MWC next month.

TOP Browsers 2012 | Download

As at present time a number of good Web Breowsers are available such as Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera, and Safari,as all are fast, provide better security standards, addons to customize the experience and a heap of Features set. It matters a lot to which you're comfortable with and which features are most important to you. For many people, the choice is moving to the product offered their favorite search site. The last time we compared all five major Web browsers Google Chrome had just over 12 percent of the market. That's now doubled, and it looks like Chrome's market share will pass Firefox's soon. But, Still Opera is being used by a huge internet traffic.

GOOGLE CHROME
Chrome Instant means your Web page is ready to read before you finish typing the address. This, its speed, minimalist design, and advanced support for HTML5 have deservedly been attracting more and more users to the browser. New hardware acceleration makes Chrome a speed maven at any task.

MOZILLA FIREFOX
Firefox 7-8 got Mozilla back into the game, and the versions keep coming at a much faster clip, now that Mozilla hews to a Chrome-like rapid release schedule. These frequent versions haven't brought the kind of earth-shattering changes we used to see in new full-number Firefox updates, but the development teams have tackled issues of importance to a lot of Web users—startup time, memory use, and of course security. This lean, fast, customizable browser can hold its own against any competitor, and it offers graphics hardware acceleration.

Internet Explorer 9 (IE9)
Microsoft's latest browser is faster, trimmer, more compliant with HTML5—a major improvement over its predecessor. It also brings some unique capabilities like tab-pinning and hardware acceleration, but only Windows 7 and Vista users need apply.

OPERA
Like the other current browsers Opera is fast, compliant with HTML5, and spare of interface. Long an innovator, recently it's added unique things like Unite, which turns the browser into a server, and Turbo, which speeds up the Web on slow connections through caching. Extension support actually followed other browsers, but Oslo still innovates with tab stacking, visual mouse gestures, and live Speed Dial tiles.

Review: Nokia Lumia 800

PROS
  •  Stunning Design
  • Super Display
  • Crystal clear call quality
  • Solid performance
RATINGS
  • Performance:  4
  • Price:  3
  • Features: 3.5
  • Ergonomics: 5
  • Wow Factor: 5
  • Overall: 4.1

Nokia, once a dominant indefatigable force in the phone market, has now been relegated to the sidelines of both the budget and the high end segments. Even as the iPhone eata away Nokia's share in the high-end segment, Android devices are cannibalizing into its once undisputed dominance of all verticals if the market.

DESIGN & LOOKS
Words cannot describe how beautiful looking the Lumia 800 is. However, we can't help but make comparisons with the erstwhile Nokia N9, which basically shares the same chassis with the Lumia 800, dropping the button-less display for the Windows Phone capacitive buttons and adding a two stage camera shutter button. Design wise, we will not say the Lumia 800 trumps the iPhone 4 because even a year later the iPhone 4 is stunning to look at.  Where the Lumia 800 scores over the iPhone 4S is definitely durability. It is a well-known fact that the iPhone 4S is pretty fragile thanks to its glass exterior, but one will face no such problems with the Nokia Lumia 800. With its injection moulded unibody polycarbonate exoskeleton, the Lumia 800, like its twin the N9, is not only a showstopper but also an immovable rock.

EYE CATCHING FEATURES
It has A numerous Eye Ctaching Features such as Its curved glass clear black AMOLED display,
Other features of the industrial design are precisely milled speaker holes and magnetic lock doors for the micro-USB and micro-sim ports on the top and bottom ends of the device. Apart from these design niceties, the standard volume rockers and the power button is placed on the right hand side alongside an additional two stage camera shutter button, which was prominently absent in the N9.

PERFORMANCE
In Our experience so far all Windows Phone devices have performed very smoothly - right on par with the likes of their Android and iOS counterparts, that too on slightly inferior hardware. The Lumia 800 is no different in this respect. All actions on the device perform at blistering speed and multitasking is a breeze with Mango's new webOS like app switching. Unfortunately, with the hardware limitations of Windows Phone Mango all we get is a 1.4GHz snapdragon processor, which works in concert with 512MB of RAM, so Nokia devices are still to enter a dual-core world.

Facebook forces Timeline | Manandatry From 1 FEB

Facebook will start requiring people to switch to a new profile format known as TIMELINE, making photos, links and personal musings from the past much easier to find.

Timeline is essentially a scrapbook of your whole life, the period you spended on Facebook, compared with a snapshot of you today found on Facebook's traditional profile page. Once activated, Timeline replaces the current profile. Although some people have already voluntarily switched to Timeline, Facebook hadn't made that mandatory. Beginning Tuesday, Facebook is telling some users that they have seven days to clean up their profiles before Timeline gets automatically activated. Facebook is rolling out the requirement to others over the next few weeks.

At some point, even those who haven't logged on to Facebook in a while will be automatically switched. Timeline doesn't expose anything that wasn't available for sharing in the past. Many of those older posts had always been available. People could get to them by continually hitting "Older Posts," although most wouldn't have bothered. Timeline allows people to jump to the older material more quickly.

Timeline also doesn't necessarily reflect the fact that your circle of friends has likely expanded in recent years. A party photo you posted in 2008 to a small group of friends would be more visible to relatives, bosses and others you may have added as friends since then.

You'll have a week to curate the Timeline by moving stuff around, hiding photos or featuring them more prominently on your page.

FEATURES OF THE  TIMELINE :
  • You can change privacy settings on individual items to control who has access. You might want to narrow embarrassing photos to your closest friends or delete some posts completely, or at least hide them so only you can see them.
  • You can change the date on a post. For example, if you took a few months to post photos from a trip to Portugal, you can move them to appear with other posts from the time you took that trip. You can also add where you were, retroactively using a location feature that Facebook hadn't offered until recently.
  •  For major events in your life, you can click on a star to feature them more prominently. You can hide the posts you'd rather not showcase.
  • Besides your traditional profile photo - your headshot - you can add what Facebook calls a cover photo. It's the image that will splash across the top and can be a dog, a hobby or anything else that reflects who you are. Keep in mind the dimensions are more like a movie screen than a traditional photo, so a close-up portrait of your face won't work well, but one of you lying horizontally will. But you don't even have to be in it.
  •  You can add things before you joined Facebook, back to when you were born. Life events can include when you broke your arm and whom you were with then, or when you spoke your first word or got a tattoo. You can add photos from childhood or high school as well.
  • If you feel overwhelmed with so many posts to go through, start with your older ones. Those are the ones you'd need to be most careful about because you had reason to believe only a few friends would see them.
  • Click on Activity Log to see all of your posts at a glance and make changes to them one by one. Open Facebook in a new browser tab first, though. That way, you can have one tab for the log and the other for the main Timeline.

MegaUpload Alternatives See Surge in Traffic After Shutdown

After losing access to their favorite file-hosting service last week, millions of former MegaUpload users have fled to the many alternatives available. Filefactory, Depositfiles and many of the other top cyberlockers have seen an unprecedented surge in traffic in recent days, showing that people haven’t stopped sharing even though the authorities have closed one of the main players in the business.

With a self-proclaimed 50 MILLION VISITERS A DAY & MORE THAN 150 MILLION ACCOUNTS, MegaUpload was one of the largest file-hosting sites on the Internet. Last week the feds shut down the popular site accusing its founder and six others of money-laundering and several copyright related crimes. The site’s former users, meanwhile, are left without their files and forced to find a new place to share. The big question is, where do these millions of people go now? The RIAA hopes that the people who used MegaUpload to share copyrighted music are turning to iTunes, but this is not the case for everyone. A look at the traffic of some of the MegaUpload alternatives shows that millions have simply migrated to other file-hosting sites. The graph below shows a sharp increase in traffic for four popular MegaUpload ‘replacements’ since last week. Based on data from various traffic measurement sites, Depositfiles, Uploaded.to, Hotfile and Rapidshare welcomed hundreds of thousands of extra visitors.

The example above is just the tip of the iceberg, as there are many other sites that experienced a surge in traffic including Filepost, Hulkshare, Netload.in, Uploading, zShare.net and many others. Whether the newcomers will remain on board has yet to be seen, but it is clear that millions of former MegaUpload users are migrating to other sites. As the cyberlocker landscape stands now, 4shared.com remains by far the largest site on the Internet. With an estimated 2.5 billion page views, 4Shared is more than twice the size of MegaUpload before it was shut down.

Needless to say, 4Shared is deeply concerned about the recent developments, but the company also told TorrentFreak that they have nothing to worry about themselves.“This case has a great negative impact on file storage services and the Internet overall,” a spokesman said, adding that “4shared has some of the most strict house rules among all other file storage services and there’s no need for any changes.” With many sites still in a state of shock, it might take a few weeks to see what the precise effect of the MegaUpload shutdown is. One thing is for sure though, many of MegaUpload’s former users haven’t given up downloading and sharing just yet.

Facebook Scam | Most Popular Videos | Best Videos 2012 |

After an earlier scam of Chuck Norris being dead at 71 video, Facebook scammers are now busy spreading a new scam with the signature Top 10 – Most Popular Videos and Top 10 – Best Videos 2010.

The Facebook scam is spreading with the text similar to:

TOP 10 – MOST POPULAR VIDEOS [link]
TOP 10 – MOST POPULAR VIDEOS
[website link]
The TOP 10 of most wanted videos by youtube users

And

TOP 10 – BEST VIDEOS 2012 [link] or TOP 10 – BEST VIDEOS 2011
TOP 10 – MOST POPULAR VIDEOS
[website link]
The TOP 10 of most wanted videos by youtube users

There are several websites which are used in this attack and clicking on the link might spread the link on your wall. When a user clicks on the link to see the Top 10 videos, they are taken to a websites called fb1.now.im or which looks and feels similar to Facebook as seen in the screenshot below.
Clicking on any link on this page will take you to a page which looks similar to a Facebook video page and ask you to grant permission to a fake YouTube app. However, this will in turn grant permission to a rogue app and spread the spam on your timeline.

Even the comments shown on the page are deceptive to look like that of Facebook itself. We are warning you not to click on the link or grant it any permissions whatsoever. This is definitely a very believable Facebook spam. It is recommended that you DO NOT click on such links or scam messages on Facebook. If you come across this scam message, please delete/remove the scam from your Facebook news feed immediately.

Alternately, you can report the scam to Facebook Security. With over 800 million users on Facebook, the social networking giant has always been a main target for spreading scams. It is quite difficult to identify scams on Facebook. Here is a post on How to Identify and Avoid Facebook Scams.

Google wishes Republic day with a Doodle

The latest Google Doodle marks the 63rd year of the Republic of India.

The Doodle depicts three elephants decked in finery, each with two children and a tricoloured umbrella on it's back, a reference to the Bravery Awardees who take part in the Republic Day parade. The Doodle is clickable, but does not play video or audio as previous clickable Doodles did. Instead, it leads to a search result page with news and information about Republic Day.

India's Republic Day commemorates the date that the Constitution Of India was enacted and became the document that governed the country. On January 26, 1950, the Indian Assembly's 308 members signed two handwritten copies of the new Constitution, an English and a Hindi version, and two days later the Constitution became the law. Drafted by a committee headed by B R Ambedkar, the Constitution replaced the Government Of India Act Of 1935 that had previously governed colonial India, and declared the country a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic republic.

HTC Sensation 4G, HTC EVO 3D will be first to get unlocked bootloader

HTC has issued a statement naming the first phones that will receive unlocked bootloader updates this coming September. In a statement to BGR via email, the company said that the international version of its Sensation smartphone, T-Mobile’s Sensation 4G, and Sprint’s EVO 3D will be among the first phones to receive a patch that enables bootloader unlocking.”While we wish we could flip a simple switch and unlock all bootloaders across our device portfolio, this is actually a complex challenge that requires a new software build and extensive testing to deliver the best possible customer experience,” HTC said in a statement. “We’re in the testing phase for the unlocking capability now, and we expect it to be fully operational by early September for devices that have received the software updates. We’ll continue rolling out the unlocking capability over time to other devices as part of maintenance releases and new shipments.” HTC noted that it is continuing its commitment to unlocked bootloaders in an effort to support the developer community, and said that it will issue updates on its progress every few weeks.
An unlocked bootloader will allow users to customize their devices more easily. Full statement from HTC:

We wanted to provide an update on HTC’s progress with bringing bootloader unlocking to our newest phones. We know how excited some of you are for this capability, and we’ve put significant resources behind making this change as soon as possible. While we wish we could flip a simple switch and unlock all bootloaders across our device portfolio, this is actually a complex challenge that requires a new software build and extensive testing to deliver the best possible customer experience.
We’re thrilled to announce today that software updates to support bootloader unlocking will begin rolling out in August for the global HTC Sensation, followed by the HTC Sensation 4G on T-Mobile USA and the HTC EVO 3D on Sprint. We’re in the testing phase for the unlocking capability now, and we expect it to be fully operational by early September for devices that have received the software updates. We’ll continue rolling out the unlocking capability over time to other devices as part of maintenance releases and new shipments.
HTC continues its commitment to unlocking bootloaders and supporting the developer community. Because of the importance of this community to us, please expect an update on this about every few weeks as we make progress toward launch. Thank you for your patience and continued support!

SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) Support Goes Sour

The Stop Internet Piracy Act is losing friends fast as website protests Wednesday directed the public's attention toward the proposed legislation. Sites like Google ran home-page links to information on SOPA, and sites like Wikipedia blacked out for the day in protest. Some members of congress have said the bill is as good as dead.

The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) appears to be reeling in the face of growing opposition.

Internet heavyweights like Wikipedia, Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) and Facebook have demonstrated their opposition to the proposed legislation, in some cases protesting by temporarily blocking users from accessing content.

A broad swathe of organizations from both the left and right sides of the political spectrum have come out against SOPA, and antipathy to the legislation appears to be growing.

Meanwhile, some members of congress have reportedly begun pulling their support for the bill. It could be that the growing opposition has forced some lawmakers to rethink their positions. The high-tech industry has also held several briefings recently for congress regarding the bill, which may have led some lawmakers to change their stances. "The legislation is well-intentioned, and I would personally like to think that anyone who is withdrawing support has thought about the issue more deeply and has some new concerns that they'd like to address," Meg Marco, executive editor of The Consumerist, told TechNewsWorld.

Lawmakers such as Representative Lee Terry and Senator Ben Cardin have reportedly said they'll withdraw their backing for SOPA.Further, Rep. Justin Amash has expressed support for the anti-SOPA online blackout on his Facebook page, and Congressman Bob Latta opposes the legislation. Representative Dennis Ross tweeted that SOPA is dead. "I will not support SOPA if this headlong rush continues," he added. Rep. Rush Holt tweeted that the legislation will not have his vote.

McAfee Supplies Antidote for Tainted SaaS Security

Security vendor McAfee has issued a patch for Endpoint Protection Software as a Service, a product that contained a flaw that would allow hackers to hijack a user's system and use it to spew spam. A small number of businesses were affected by the flaw, according to McAfee.
SSecurity vendor McAfee, which is now owned by Intel (Nasdaq: INTC), is rolling out a patch for three flaws in its Endpoint Protection Software as a Service offering.

All three flaws are in ActiveX controls. One tricks the control into executing commands supplied by an attacker, the second lets attackers write to files on disk and the third lets attackers execute code with user privileges, McAfee said.

The first two flaws were patched back in August, and it's the third that created headlines earlier this week when it was found it let attackers essentially hijack victims' PCs and use them to relay spam.

McAfee knows of "four to five" victims, all small and medium-sized businesses, company spokesperson Ian Bain told TechNewsWorld. The vendor "worked with them to stop [the attack] as the patch was being developed," Bain added.

The spam relay problem "would most likely cause an ISP to block a business, and that is rarely going to happen to a large corporation," IT security expert Randy Abrams told TechNewsWorld. "Small, relatively unknown companies would be at great risk of being blacklisted."The flaw that turned victims' PCs into spam relay machines, ZDI-CAN-1094, affects the myCIOScn ActiveX control.

It affects McAfee SaaS Endpoint Protection version 5.2.2 and earlier, McAfee said.

The vulnerability was reported to McAfee in April 2011 by Andrea Micalizzi, a.k.a. "rgod," of Tipping Point's DVI Labs.

However, user involvement is required to exploit the vulnerability. The Tipping Point advisory detailing Micalizzi's discovery said users had to visit a malicious page or open a malicious file first. The myCIOScn ActiveX control is used in McAfee's Rumor feature. This employs file-sharing technology to distribute security product updates and upgrades. The Rumor technology was implemented to help keep down the cost of software updates and upgrades, but this isn't the first time it has backfired on McAfee.

Back in 2001, a remote vulnerability surfaced that leveraged Rumor technology to let attackers read any file on an affected PC. Attackers could use a specially formatted directory traversal URL to connect to a victim's Web server and view and download any file on the target PC, Packet Technology warned. At that time, the Rumor technology was used in McAfee Agent under the local system account.
